Ron and Jan's Story

   Inside -Outside

         Urban Initiative

Although they were professing believers in Christ, they brought into their marriage difficulties from their past. Ron and Jan's relationship was characterized by distrust, anxiety, fear, anger, and a desire for control. But God, through His love for those who belong to Him, is not willing to let his own continue in this kind of downward path. Ron had been brought to Hennepin County Jail as a result of police intervention of an alleged domestic conflict. Jan, Ron's wife, called jail Chaplin Dave Whiteford to tell him, "my husband is in jail; he is lonely and needs someone to talk with." Dave soon met and ministered to him. Chaplain Dave suggested that Jan call Karen Hime, a counselor for Bible based Urban Initiative. With Karen, she got help and encouragement. Also, Dave's prayer with Jan changed her mind from fear to faith. Jan now attends church, Bible study, and a counseling group regularly. These interactive groups have also enjoyed her presence and input. Today, the amazing power of God is working in her life. Ron, meanwhile has been taught, encouraged, and mentored by Chaplain Whiteford and another jail volunteer, James Mullen. He is now living responsibly with his job and as a good husband.
